Schools across the nation are looking to re-open after spending months teaching virtually because of COVID-19. If your child is going to school – be it Pre-K or high school – you may be wondering what you can do to ensure he/she stays safe. What are experts and school officials recommending parents do?

Keep Sick Children Home

If your child is sick, keep them at home. Create a morning routine that includes a fever check. Be sure your child isn’t exhibiting other signs of illness such as coughing, runny nose, etc. If your child has a fever, don’t give them medication to reduce it and send them to school. Instead, keep them home to recover.

Purchase School Supplies For Your Child Only

Your child is going to need school supplies for the school year. As such, be sure your child has their own set of classroom supplies such as pencils, pens, scissors, highlighters, etc. This will help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Check out this bundle of Crayola products to get your child that they can have for themselves.

Provide Hand Sanitizer

The key to reducing the spread of diseases is to constantly wash your hands. Since it’s not always possible to do so, you can use hand sanitizer. Make sure your child has an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that can kill the majority of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. This sanitizer should be used in every situation, such as the bus, touching others’ papers, pencils, pens, etc. Hand sanitizers are offered an array of scents, so find one that your child will look to use.

There are many hand sanitizers to choose from, but many smell like a hospital or clinic. The following hand sanitizers give you protection while also making you smell good too.

Keep Masks Handy

Masks became a necessity in 2020 and 2021, and students should continue to keep them on hand to use for extended periods of time. If you have a young child going to school for the first time, acquaint them with masks now, so they are prepared to use them for an entire school day (if the school recommends their use. A child who has not spent a lot of time wearing a mask will have difficulty wearing them for an entire school day.

Make masks fun for your child to wear all day at school by getting them tie-dyed and printed masks to keep it cute and fun.

Enact An After School Protocol To Keep Your Home Safe

With students going back to school, it’s imperative to keep your home as clean as you can. Children are magnets for bringing home germs. Therefore, you should give them hand sanitizer before they come inside and disinfect their backpack and other things. They should also immediately change and place the clothing in the laundry and hop into the shower.

Make sure to regularly clean your home with home cleaning products, spraying down doorknobs and other commonly touched products to reduce the spread of viruses, bacteria, and other germs. For example, the Portable UV Light Sanitizer Wand is effective at killing 99% of viruses and germs. When you need an effective cleaning source for your home, this is the way to go.

Have A Positive Mindset

The key to school success is to maintain a positive mindset. How you react and look at the pandemic is going to have an impact on your child. You set the tone and example for your child in the classroom. Encourage to be patient and stay flexible. It’s going to take time for the kids to become acclimated back to school life, so don’t rush it. Advise your child that things may look different, and any expectations they may have may need to be lowered.

You also need to be realistic of your child’s expectations at school because they may have a difficult time accepting what is going on around them.

The coronavirus pandemic has undoubtedly changed how people interact with each other, including children. However, with a bit of foresight and thinking, you can make your child’s transition from virtual to in-class learning a happy and safe one.
